Moving from 1C or BAS to Odoo is a complex project. Careful planning, and a clear view of the opportunities and risks the move creates, is often what separates a switch that pays off from one that stalls halfway.
This guide sets out a sequence that keeps the budget down and the business running: build Odoo skills in your own team, start where mistakes are cheap, take payroll out of the critical path, and move accounting last.
What the move actually involves
A 1C/BAS to Odoo transfer is three pieces of work, not one.
- Technical setup and data transfer. Installing and configuring Odoo, and moving master data and balances out of your old systems.
- Business process analysis. A detailed look at how you actually work, where the weak points are, and where Odoo opens new options. Copying your old 1C processes into Odoo one to one is often the most complex and most expensive way to migrate.
- Data cleanup and integrity. Cleaning historical data and making it consistent before it moves. This is the step most often skipped or underestimated, and it is one of the most common reasons system transfers fail.
A four-step plan
- Step 1Train your own peopleBuild Odoo skills in-house before and during the setup.
- Step 2Start with non-critical modulesCRM first, where a mistake does not stop the business.
- Step 3Take payroll out of the migrationOutsource payroll to APEX AV, which works with both 1C/BAS and Odoo.
- Step 4Move accounting lastSwitch the ledger once everything feeding it is stable.
Step 1. Train your own staff on Odoo
Every task your own team can handle is one you do not buy from an integrator. People who know both your business and Odoo also make better decisions during the process analysis, and they stay after the project ends.
In Ukraine, Odoo.school, run by the public association «ОСА Україна», offers practical online courses in Ukrainian: video lessons, hands-on tasks in training databases, weekly live sessions with mentors, a group chat and a final project. The school reports more than 520 students and more than 280 certified graduates.

Two points matter for the budget. Training a project team of three costs UAH 36,000 at current prices. And the school runs a scholarship programme, «Переходь на Odoo!», that can cover part or all of the fee, aimed especially at people switching from 1C/BAS, with job placement for strong graduates through partner integrators.
Step 2. Launch with non-critical modules
Start with modules where an error is inconvenient rather than costly, such as CRM. Your team learns Odoo on live data, gaps in your data and processes show up early, and nobody’s salary, tax return or stock count depends on the first weeks going perfectly.
Keep 1C/BAS running for everything else in the meantime. Let each module settle before the next one moves.
Step 3. Take payroll out of the migration
Payroll is where mistakes are most visible: employees notice at once, and statutory returns carry fines. Because of Ukrainian statutory rules, it is also one of the hardest modules to set up in a new ERP.
Outsource payroll to APEX AV before the ERP project starts. Our payroll platform, APEX Cache, connects to 1C/BAS as well as to Odoo, so it works as a bridge between the two. It posts to your current system from the first month, and on cut-over day it switches its postings to Odoo. Payroll never has to move at the same time as everything else.
It also helps with the cleanup problem above. While we take over payroll, we clean up the payroll history and list the gaps, so that part of your data is already consistent before Odoo arrives.
The timeline and hours behind this approach are in our analysis BAS to Odoo: move payroll first, then change the ERP.
Step 4. Move accounting last
Accounting depends on everything else: sales, purchases, stock and payroll all post into it. Move it once those are live and stable in Odoo, at a clean cut-off such as the start of a month or quarter, with opening balances reconciled against 1C/BAS.
By then your team knows Odoo, your data is clean, and payroll postings already arrive in Odoo from APEX Cache. The riskiest part of the project becomes the last and best-prepared step.
Planning a move away from 1C or BAS? We can take payroll off your plate before the project starts, so it never becomes part of the migration.
See how it works: 1C/BAS replacement.
One disclosure: APEX AV provides payroll outsourcing, so step 3 is our own service. The other three steps do not depend on it.
This is the general position. Yours will have specifics.
Thirty minutes on a call and we can tell you which parts of the above actually apply to your company, what getting them wrong would cost, and what we would do about it. No slides, no obligation, and we will say so if you do not need us.
